Maddie Walker is the most country singer of American Idol’s Top 12. Her fans consider her the next Carrie Underwood. But not all have been impressed with her performances, especially when she sang Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There.” Many thought it was too safe of a song. “She isn’t pushing herself,” wrote Emily Knifong. “She should at least take a risk and see what happens.”
American Idol viewers want more than a decent voice. More than a pretty face. As Emma Everyday wrote of the “I’ll Be There” performance: “She [Maddie] has a really pretty voice but there was no feeling.” And Mikel Joshua agreed, “I honestly think they picked her because she’s pretty and has a decent voice. I just don’t think she interprets enough emotion into her songs.” He added, “I hope she changes my mind.” Maddie will perform again on American Idol, Thursday, March 12, 8pm on Fox.
