On American Idol, contestant Nick Fradiani will sing the song “Man in the Mirror.” The anthem was immortalized by the King of Pop Michael Jackson on his 1987 album Bad. What might come as a surprise to some Idol fans is learning that the song was co-written by a woman, Siedah Garrett. “All I wanted to do was give Michael something he would want to say to the world, and I knew it couldn’t be another ‘Oh baby, I love you’ song,” said Garrett. “It had to be a little bit more than that. It needed to have some substance.” Exactly what Fradiani needs after that Top Gun “Danger Zone” air guitar performance last week!
Garrett is a two-time Grammy award winner. She also co-wrote “Love You, I Do” which was sung by former Idol Jennifer Hudson in the film Dreamgirls…and this season’s Idol contestant Adanna Duru.
