She’s just 26 and when you see her face you think she’s about to sing–like she’s the next contestant on American Idol about to hit it big. But Marie Holmes of North Carolina isn’t on TV because she’s beautiful–that’s just a coincidence, her beauty. Holmes is on TV because she already hit it big. Really BIG. As in she’s one of the winners of a $564.1 million Powerball lottery prize. American Idol has yet to bestow that kind of riches. (Still, it’s a good bet Marie Holmes has been singing lately.)
Holmes has four children, one with cerebral palsy, and isn’t currently working. Or rather, she isn’t currently being paid to work: she quit a job a Walmart to care for the kids. Four kids: that’s work. For others thinking of ditching their jobs today and buying a bunch of lottery tickets, we pass along this unhappy bit of information: the odds of winning are 1 in 175 million.
