The character Lord Merton (aka Dickie) reappears on Downton Abbey on Sunday, January 25 (9pm on PBS). Lord knows what he’s going to say next to stun Isobel Crawley (portrayed by Penelope Wilton). He proposed to the widow once but Merton’s two dastardly sons treated her with utter disrespect and she called the whole thing off. Can’t blame her.
So who plays Lord Merton, the godfather of Lady Mary? That’s English actor Douglas Reith. He has an impressive career playing Lords. He was Lord Airlie in the Academy Awarding winning film The Queen, Lord Brownlow in W.E., and Sir Andrew Ross in the TV series Rose and Maloney.
