Smells Like Tee Spirit?
In a week in which the meaning of freedom of expression in a democracy is being tortuously analyzed, redefined, defended, criticized, and generally undergoing its biggest examination since the French Revolution, along comes another example of an artist creating something that will offend many. You can now buy baseball tees with Kurt Cobain’s handwritten suicide note.
The AV Club is reporting that the tees had been available on Etsy but were taken down yesterday, and are now for sale on eBay by a Thai seller named “Nuchyck”. It goes without saying that the tees are not official or in any way licensed by the Cobain estate. Before you get all huffy about this being the lowest thing you’ve ever seen, bear in mind this is hardly the first occasion when people have cashed in on a grisly celebrity death. After all, selling the dead is big business.
