After discovering (through the Sony hack) that her male co-star Chris Hemsworth was getting paid millions more for their film, The Huntsman, Oscar winner Charlize Theron insisted she get the same pay – more than $10 million. She succeeded. The Huntsman is a prequel to the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman. Hemsworth plays the huntsman Eric; Theron plays the evil queen, Ravenna. (Kristen Stewart, who played Snow White, will not appear in the prequel.)
There is a gender wage gap in nearly every kind of job. President Obama recently announced an executive order to end the practice of salary secrecy to help close the gender wage gap. The Paycheck Fairness Act has been shot down multiple times over the years in Congress. Many Senate Republicans say women are already protected and argue that the gap isn’t as big as the statistics say.
