General Mills is putting its French Toast Crunch cereal back into production after an eight year hiatus. Media analysts say it has to do with a sweeping sugary “90s nostalgia” – they’re comparing it to the recent relaunch of Coca-Cola’s Surge soda. It’s surprising it took so long, really. Just two years after French Toast Crunch was taken off the shelves of grocery stores in 2006, the song and meme video “Do You Life Waffles?” took the Internet by storm.
Parry Gripp produced the music, Nathan Mazur provided the animation to the simple, silly song that repeats these lyrics, over and over: “Do you like waffles? Yeah, we like waffles. Do you like pancakes? Yeah, we like pancakes. Do you like French toast? Yeah, we like French Toast…Can’t wait to get a mouthful!” Talk about subliminal advertising. P.S. Albino Blacksheep looped it for 10 hours straight.
