Ryan Gosling has been approached by People Magazine numerous times to participate in the magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” gig. But The Notebook actor has turned down the offer each time, according to the magazine. “The consensus was he’s too serious for it, too artsy.” Maybe Shakespeare is calling? This year’s sexiest choice, Chris Hemsworth, tried to have it both ways: taking the offer but downplaying it and feigning humility over the “honor.” Gosling–who grew up at Disney–knows a little something about managing an image. Winning the by now self-parodying hottest hunk title from People isn’t going to help him in the next Oscars race, he figures.
But by basically distancing himself from a vacuous popularity contest, Gosling runs the risk of bringing sad and difficult news to his legions of female fans. They feel strongly that no one else has the right to hold the title as long as Gosling is alive and kicking. Ranker.com conducted a poll that showed Gosling a clear first place choice among voters for sexiest. Channing Tatum was second, followed by Hemsworth. For Hemsworth, winning by default may be a bitter pill to swallow, especially when your head is big as your body.
