Eighties punk rocker Billy Idol (Rebel Yell, White Wedding) is promoting his memoir Dancing With Myself. He wrote it himself, which he says forced him to come to grips with his tumultuous past. “I am my own nemesis,” he said during an interview. He considers himself a bibliophile. “I have always loved books. I gravitated to books from the time I was very young, gobbling them up. Especially histories, or biographies.”
But why write a memoir now? Idol says: “Some of the memoires were just beginning to become corroded, and so I thought, god, if I don’t do it now, I’ll never be able to do it.” And…he’s about to drop a new album, Kings & Queens of the Underground. It’ll be his first studio album in nearly 10 years. It will be released October 21, and a US tour will start in January 2015.
