After Colin Farrell confirmed he will be in the second season of True Detective, HBO has announced that Vince Vaughn, who for weeks has been the subject of casting rumors, will also be joining the cast. Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.” Farrell is taking a lead role as Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.” HBO has also confirmed that Fast and Furious director Justin Lin wil direct the first two episodes of the show.
The second season of the dark detective drama will be set in California and will concern “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system,” which makes me think creator Nic Pizzolatto has decided to mash up Thomas Pynchon, Roman Polanski, and Robert Zemeckis.
