George Clooney will pay a visit to Downtown Abbey this Christmas. The movie star will appear in a television sketch inspired by the period drama as part of Text Santa, ITV’s annual charity telethon. Clooney was recently spotted at Highclere Castle, where the series is filmed. It’s not his first time at the stately home. He took his fiancee Amal Alamuddin there last May for a tour.
ITV has confirmed that Clooney was on the series set, but are keeping details of the sketch under wraps. The sketch was specially written to raise money for Text Santa’s chosen charities but ITV are at pains to point out that Clooney will be in a sketch only and will not be appearing in a full episode of the period drama. ITV’s Text Santa raises money and awareness for six UK based charities offering life-changing services to people in communities. Clooney is by far the most famous name to be associated with the event. Previous years’ Text Santa campaigns have featured singer Cheryl Cole appearing in long-running British soap Coronation Street and the cast of Emmerdale, another long-running drama, getting festive.
