Kanye West is building a cathedral to honor his bride Kim Kardashian. According to The National Enquirer (so you know it must be true) Kimye’s search for a wedding venue inspired the 37-year-old rapper to build a church of his own, and he’s set aside $5 million to start the project. “They want somewhere that weddings, baptisms and family funerals can take place for years to come.” The church will include a chapel honoring West’s mother, as well as a stained glass window depicting Kim and their child, North. West doesn’t do things on the cheap, of course. A source reveals that “Kanye being Kanye, it’s going to be ludicrously over the top! He’ll keep adding to the structure, so it’s a working piece of art.”
“Art” may not be the word that springs to mind when thinking of a monument designed to venerate its creator’s famously huge ego. “Kanye sees it as a monument to him and Kim that will become a major landmark. Everyone will want to see it, like the Hollywood sign or the Empire State Building.” That, in addition to the possibility that the celebrity couple are considering crowdfunding to pay for it, should indicate Kimye’s real intent. The Los Angeles and New York landmarks are simply unavoidable. Grantland has had some fun imagining what the cathedral might look like.
