In the horror video game Five Nights at Freddy’s you control a security guard that looks a lot like Chuck E. Cheese. (Freddy’s refers to the fictional Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.) In a security booth you watch the animatronic robots (a creepy menagerie including Chica the Chicken, Bonnie the Bunny, Freddy Fazbear) come alive after everyone has left and the lights go out. They’re coming for you. The trick is: as long as you keep looking at them through your security camera, they won’t move. You can close the door and keep your security booth light on but you risk draining all the power in the place. (The building runs on battery because your boss is one cheap bastard.)
To keep gamers on edge, there is an unnerving lack of in-game music. All you hear is an electrical hum from the flights, static coming from the surveillance CCTV cameras, and the heavy footsteps of the robots as they approach your booth. Angelo M. I have jumped out of my seat several times playing the game.” The game is now available for sale on Steam for $5.
