Eighteen-year-old YouTube/Vine singing sensation Austin Mahone has been nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for his MMM Yeah lyric video. It’s a fun, low budget video that has Mahone wearing a huge afro wig and ridiculous bellbottoms while dancing like a reincarnated John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.
Demi Lovato’s lyric video for Really Don’t Care is of a higher quality. Maybe it’s the subject matter. Really Don’t Care is about being dumped by a guy and getting over it. And the video is a refreshing change from the standard breakup video. Unlike Miley Cyrus who is the center of attention in her video Wrecking Ball, Lovato turns the camera on her Lovatics who lip sync the entire song. It’s been viewed more than 20 million times. Lovato knows what she’s doing. The votes of fans really do count at the VMAs. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on August 24.
