Comedian Bill Murray is a co-owner of the minor league baseball team the St. Paul Saints. It’s a small town team with some funky traditions including the one where the Saints pig brings out game balls and receives a snack between innings. A freight train runs alongside the stadium, too.
The St. Paul Saints has been playing at Midway Stadium since 1993 but it will soon be replaced by a corporate park. For the final game this week, Murray showed up to entertain and share stories. Murray told a USA Today reporter he remembers a time when a body was thrown out of one of the trains. “It was just a dummy, but it was pretty funny.” In time for the 2015 season, the St. Paul Saints is planning to move to the new Lowertown ballpark, as will the baseball team of Hamline University (undergrad student body 2,100).
