Kristen Wiig wants to get naked on film. Well, what she really wants is to get dramatic–and who doesn’t feel just a little more dramatic when naked? The attention-grabbing actress is known for creating insanely funny characters on Saturday Night Live and then transitioning into big movies like it’s easy. (Quick, name three other female SNL stars who have made hit movies…) Now Wiig is looking to transition again. According to an Elle magazine interview, she’s pretty happy about her success on TV and writing and starring in the insta-classic Bridesmaids, but Wiig has “always wanted to do dramatic stuff… do a lot of different things.” Next up is the summer dramedy, The Skeleton Twins, with fellow SNL veteran Bill Hader. It’s funny, but there’s a serious undercurrent too that Wiig is uniquely suited to bring across.
But back to being naked and dramatic. Wiig was reading the script for Welcome to Me when she had a revelation: the script calls for her character to be “fully naked” and she realized with some alarm that there was no way the character could do otherwise. “If I do this movie, I have to do this scene, because it’s really important to the script,” she told Elle. Wiig plays a character with borderline personality disorder–a role she seems to have been auditioning for way back on SNL. Fortunately, she’ll be among friends when she strips down. Welcome to Me also stars Will Ferrell, who can give her some tips about being naked on screen.
