Mitt Romney spent seven times more money than his closest opponent in Illinois and won yesterday’s primary there. He hopes the win will solidify his frontrunner status, finally allowing him to stop dealing with pesky GOP competitors like Rick Santorum and focus instead on defeating the incumbent.
Afterwards, aiming squarely at his Democratic rival, Mr. Romney declared, “I believe in the American people.” It is a belief Mr. Obama has also been known to express. This comes as no surprise. In fact there is broad consensus that the American people do exist.
