The Justice Department under the current administration has so far sued six CIA agents for providing information to reporters about alleged CIA torture. The leakers are pursued under the Espionage Act, a controversial legal vehicle which prior to Obama had been used sparingly against internal whistleblowers. It was intended for the Rosenbergs, then turned on Daniel Ellsberg.
Separately the White House praised two highly-regarded American foreign correspondents that died on the job this week, saying “it’s a reminder of the terrible risks that journalists take in order to bring the truth about what’s happening in a country…”
