In Washington State, a 9-year-old boy brought a .45 caliber pistol to school in his backpack. The gun—following Chekov’s admonition—went off, blowing a hole through the pack and the arm and abdomen of an 8-year-old girl. She fell bleeding to the floor.
In a few weeks, as the state law requires, a judge will attempt to determine whether the boy can tell right from wrong.
