Google—which can see you right now—announces it will jettison more than sixty privacy policies it currently has in place, replacing them with a single policy beginning March 1 (which isn’t really true, since Chrome and Books and other Google categories will retain their own policies, but anyway). “Knowing a little bit about you can help make Google products better, both for you and for others,” Google cheerfully announces. It’s safe to say that it’s not a “little bit” about you that Google wants to know. Not that there’s anything wrong—or preventable—about wanting to know a lot, indeed, everything—so why the kid gloves, the folksy tone?
