Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson knows the secret of Hollywood. You may think the moguls are in charge — the CEOs of Warner Brothers or Disney Studios. Or you may think it’s the brand name directors or millionaire producers whose decisions have the greatest influence.
But that’s not it at all. The Rock knows who he has to listen to if he wants to succeed: as he says in the post below, he needs to “learn from my #1 boss – the audience.” You could take the L away from “learn” in that sentence and it’d still be correct. The audience is how The Rock earns too.
That’s why The Rock is listening carefully to the feedback on Black Adam — it means everything to him. Check him out, working the crowd and listening. But first he watches — “screenings,” he says, I “always secretly participate in.”
The Rock was surely glad to know that the Black Adam ending was “the part I loved the most” according to one screening audience member. And that, according to another audience member, the end was beloved because “you didn’t know what was going to happen.” Suspense, that’s hard to maintain. Box checked.
As The Rock says, “Success (and the devil) is in the details — and man I sweat the details.”
