Actress Anna Kendrick, who’s best known for her role as Beca in the Pitch Perfect movies, is in Venice promoting her new film, Alice, Darling. She plays the protagonist, Alice, who’s trapped in an abusive relationship and “becomes the unwitting participant in an intervention staged by her two closest friends.” Alice, Darling (see stills below) will be released on September 12.
Kendrick is also in the news for announcing her directorial debut with the upcoming thriller, The Dating Game. It’s about serial killer Rodney Alcala, who went on a killing spree while “winning a date” on the popular 1970s TV dating game. (Kendrick plays the bachelorette, Cheryl Bradshaw, who “won” the date but eventually refused the date because she thought Alcala was “creepy.”
Get ready to see more of Kendrick and in dramatic roles. It’s been announced that she will star in the thriller Unsound. She plays a New England state trooper struggling with permanent hearing loss. When assigned to investigate the prison break of a notorious gang leader, “she uncovers a vast conspiracy that, coupled with her deteriorating condition, threatens to end her career — and her life.”
The Unsound screenplay was written by Christopher Edwards and Matthew Ross.
Ross is known for directing Keanu Reeves in the 2018 film Siberia, and directing Michael Shannon in Frank & Lola (the 2016 thriller which he also wrote). More recently, the Harvard alum directed episodes of the hulu series Wu-Tang: An American Saga, including the final two episodes of the upcoming Season 3.
