NFL superstar Vernon Davis caught a pass and ran for a dramatic opening play touchdown to start the season for the Washington Redskins. Davis hurdled over two Philadelphia Eagles in route the the end zone, seemingly helped into the air by some supernatural power.
If anyone could feel lifted by the heavens on Sunday, it was certainly Davis, whose beloved grandfather passed away the day before. Davis’s emotional reaction after the score was moving and intense.
Davis honored his grandfather on social media before honoring him with this extraordinary play. “Dad, pops, grandpa, my hero… You were all of the above. I will miss you truly. I wouldn’t be who I am without you,” he wrote. “My first 18 years of life you showed me how to be a man. Thank you for everything.”
