Former Saturday Night Live star Tracy Morgan is hosting the 2019 ESPYS Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Top athletes will be honored at the 27th annual event. The Arthur Ashe Courage Award will be presented to NBA legend Bill Russell, and the Pat Tillman for Service Award will be presented to U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kirstie Ennis.
Ennis lost most of her left leg after her helicopter crashed in Afghanistan in 2012. Since the crash, she has undergone 38 surgeries.
Since her recovery, Ennis continues to push herself physically as an athlete, competing in rowing, swimming, outdoor cycling, and snowboarding competitions — and she’s returned to rock climbing.

Ennis wrote about the red bikini photo series below: “In the evolution of these photos — I was a mess. I didn’t care if I could run again then. I cared about who was looking at me differently, if I could wear a dress or heels, and if anyone would be attracted to my mind enough to overlook this new physical “flaw.”

The 2019 ESPYS will broadcast live from Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 10 at 8 pm on ABC.
Ennis is an ambassador for Pelican Products, a manufacturer of high performance protective cases for outdoor enthusiasts. Ennis uses the cases to transport her prosthetics. She is also pursuing a doctoral degree.
