Actor comedian writer Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, Silicon Valley) is a sweet man, one suspects. It’s not an easy quality to maintain in show business, and perhaps especially in comedy, where “edgier” often wins the day — and wins the big gigs.
But here we have not just Kumail, who seems kind, but he’s talking to Ellen, who most certainly is kindhearted — and they are talking about Oprah. (We’ll let the Oprah kindness record speak for itself.) It’s a threesome of entertainment successes who are all filled with that kindness light. Together Kumail, Oprah and Ellen form a sort of Threesome of Kindness. What a nice antidote to our often rancorous public discourse.
Here’s Kumail explaining to Ellen how he met Oprah — and what a powerful experience it was. You don’t just see her, you “feel it” when you meet Oprah. “She touched my face,” Kumail says, cooing. His face, he says, is now off limits to his wife!
