The 34-year-old Muslim rapper French Montana is celebrating Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim year, during which strict fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset. Montana was born and raised in Morocco, immigrated to the U.S. (the South Bronx) when he was 13, and last year became an American citizen. On Instagram, French revealed where he was celebrating the 27th of Ramadan – at the Islamic Center of Conejo Valley outside of Los Angeles, California.

The 27th night is called Laylat al-Qadr, translated the Night of Decree, Night of Power, Night of Value, Night of Destiny, or Night of Measures. It is an Islamic belief that it was the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
French wore a red velvet jacket for the “very special night for all my Muslim brothers!” French Montana explains it is a time for Allah to forgive men of “all of our sins” and to “show us the way.”
