Actor and venture capitalist Ashton Kutcher is in the news this week because he’s testifying at the trial of suspected serial killer Michael Gargiulo, who has been charged with the murder of Kutcher’s friend Ashley Ellerin. Ellerin was found stabbed to death in her apartment in 2001.
Kutcher had planned to go to dinner with Ellerin, 22, on the night she was murdered. He was running late. When he reached her home, no one answered. Kutcher said in court that he “assumed she had gone out with her friend and bailed.”
Kutcher is one of more than 100 witnesses to testify in the trial of Gargiulo — who prosecutors are calling a “serial psychosexual-thrill killer.” Kutcher appeared in court in a blue suit and chevron-style mustache.
Kutcher is currently starring in the Netflix series The Ranch, where he plays a semi-pro football player who returns to his family’s ranch in Colorado. Sam Elliott and Debra Winger play his parents. Kutcher’s former That ‘70s Show co-star Danny Masterson plays his brother, Rooster.
Kutcher will also appear in the James Franco film The Long Home based on the William Gay novel which is set in Tennessee in the 1940s.
