In the Star episode ‘The Reckoning,’ under Mateo’s (William Levy) hand, Gravity Media’s finances are in the gutter and the team must pull off a successful ASA party to get back in the game. Meanwhile, Carlotta (Queen Latifah) returns and jumps right back into cleaning up everyone’s mess. Carlotta’s transgender daughter Cotton (Amiyah Scott), shares a scene with a new face on the show, Dior. Dior is portrayed by Ashton B. Grooms, who is a transgender woman.

Grooms has been a big fan of Scott’s. In a recent Instagram post (see below), Grooms wrote about how great Scott was on the Star set “with that New Orleans motherly energy” even though Grooms is older than Scott. “So, I have to thank my little big sister (Scott) for surrounding me with so much love and affirming my greatness constantly.”
Grooms launched her acting career in the 2018 TV movie Soft Focus with Jena Friedman (Friedman was a producer for The Daily Show). Grooms is currently filming Death and Bowling, an indie film written and directed by Lyle Kash, starring Faith Bryan (a transgender woman who came out in 2012 and began transition in 2013). Based on the Instagram photo below with Gabrielle Union, it looks like Grooms will appear in the upcoming Bad Boys inspired female cop TV series L.A.’s Finest, too. Star airs Wednesdays at 9 pm on FOX, right after Empire.
