The Lifetime movie Secrets in a Small Town (formerly titled Nowhere) is, unfortunately, inspired by a true story. The protagonist is single mom Claire Porter (Kate Drummond). She and her teenage daughter Sarah (Nell Verlaque) move to a small town after her husband’s death. They’re looking for a fresh start. But when Sarah goes missing after basketball tryouts, Claire’s worst nightmare comes true. And the last people who saw Sarah, the girls on the basketball team, aren’t helpful. They’re downright creepy.
Basketball Coach Ruth Simmons is portrayed by actress Rya Kihlstedt. She’s known for her roles on Charmed (Julia Wagner, see link above), Law & Order: True Crime (Cindy Erdelyi), Heroes Reborn (Erica Kravid), Nashville (Marilyn Rhodes), Dexter (Dr. Michelle Ross), and in films including Home Alone 3 (Alice Ribbons), among others. Fun fact: Kihlstedt is married to actor Gil Bellows (Billy on Ally McBeal). Secrets in a Small Town premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, April 13 at 8 pm.
