On The Rap Game episode “Def 25,” music producer Jermaine Dupri is celebrating the 25th anniversary of So So Def Records with a block party in Atlanta. He’s having his five young rappers, who are all competing against each other for a contract with the record label, perform together as a group and yes, it’s a train wreck. As 16-year-old rapper Nya Kasan says, “You cannot be looking weak on this stage.” Tensions rise during rehearsals. Fellow 16-year-old Tyeler Reign gets chewed out by her momanger who barks at her, “Do what you know you’re supposed to do!”
When JD brings in Grammy winner Lil Jon to meet the kids, even the hip hop star can feel the tension. He says, “the managers are kinda of intense.” (Lil Jon was Executive Vice President of A&R at So So Def back in the day.) JD notices the intensity too. “There are curse words all over the place, they’re cursing more than me!” The Rap Game airs Thursdays at 10 pm on Lifetime.
