Chris Kroeze is the 27-year-old country rock star competing on Season 15 of The Voice. His coach Blake Shelton called him a “dark horse” but he made it to the Live Finale after singing “Can’t You See” at the semi-finals. Kroeze is from Barron, Wisconsin (population 3,318), where his local newspaper says Kroeze’s odds of winning are 35 percent. (The paper gives Alabama native Kirk Jay 33 percent; Kennedy Holmes from St. Louis 18 percent; and New Mexico’s Chevel Shepherd 14 percent.)

Wisconsin TV crews are in Los Angeles to report on small town hero Kroeze during the Live Finale on The Voice. While wearing a Chris Kroeze fan t-shirt, WEAU report Abigail Hantke interviewed Kroeze’s grandfather, Dan Pond, who also traveled to Los Angeles to watch Kroeze live on stage.

Pond told Hantke the advice that he always gives his grandson: “Be yourself. Do what you’re doing. Be you, and he’s good at that. That’s the way he is. What you see is what he is. He’s not a phony at all. He’s a good guy. A real good guy.” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm on NBC.
