On The Voice Season 15, coach Jennifer Hudson made the mistake of pitting two powerhouses against each other — Patrique Fortson and Sandy Redd. After preparing for the Knockouts with Mariah Carey, Patrique nailed the Aerosmith song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and Sandy Redd delivered a fierce rendition of Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman”. JHud proclaimed Patrique won the Knockout but then stole Sandy Redd back on her team before anyone else could.

When 36-year-old single mom Redd isn’t singing or spending time with her two sons, she’s working as head volleyball coach at Southland College Prep, a charter school in Richton Park, Illinois. The school held a pep rally in Coach Redd’s honor on October 4. Redd said, “That was absolutely incredible. They all wanted to show me love.” She said her volleyball players have been very supportive and have been moved to tears watching her perform on The Voice. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm on NBC.
