In the Season 5 premiere of Return to Amish, while Mary must decide if she will rejoin the Amish church, Jeremiah and Carmela partner with Amish Ada to sell Amish donuts at a fair across the country. Ada insists that Jeremiah hire Amish people to help so he finds three young people who are willing to work in the English world. Lowell, a Mennonite from Bedford, Pennsylvania, is one of them. As the young African-American man points out, he didn’t choose to become a Mennonite. He was adopted into the community at a very early age.

While Lowell’s excited to find out more about where he’s from, and discover who he really is, Lowell also realizes he’s giving up a lot. Lowell says in the Mennonite community “I’m known as a Ladies’ Man because I can pretty much get whatever girl I want.” On the show, he points to a spot — an animal pen in a barn –where he “lost his virginity for the first time.”
