The Deadly Rich episode “A Glittering Murder” investigates the 2008 murder of Pamela Fayed. She and her husband James Fayed turned a California coin company into a gold trading empire called Goldfinger. There was approximately $35 million a month going through Goldfinger in gold bullion. When Pamela realized that the business wasn’t legitimate, she set out to “do the right thing” and cooperate with a federal investigation of Goldfinger. She and James were also going through a bitter divorce. During the divorce proceedings, they argued over sharing the profits of Goldfinger. After leaving a meeting with their divorce lawyers, Pamela Fayed was stabbed to death in a parking lot. In 2011, James Fayed was found guilty of hiring three men to kill his estranged wife. He was sentenced to death and is currently on death row in California.

According to Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy, James Fayed was sitting on a nearby bench when his wife had her throat slit, “texting on his cellphone, like he doesn’t have a care in the world.” Bystanders in the parking lot heard her screaming and called 911.
