On My 600-lb Life, patients of gastric bypass surgeon Dr. Nowzaradan are required to go see a therapist. The weight loss journey is never just physical. There is always an emotional, usually tragic, trigger that sets off one’s obsession with food. On the episode “Kirsten, Michael & Roni,” Roni visits therapist Lola Clay. During their session, Roni opens up about her childhood (raised by her grandparents and without food for days) and her relationship with her husband Michael, who had his own gastric bypass surgery. (Michael is/was a patient of Lola Clay’s too.)
Lola Clay is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas. She is a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio (class of 2004), and is working on her Ph.D. in Jungian studies from Saybrook University. The cost of her sessions range from $100 to $270. New episodes of My 600-lb Life air Wednesdays at 8pm on TLC.
