In the Mom episode “A Taco Bowl and a Tubby Seamstress,” Bonnie (Allison Janney) is at home in her robe watching The View, when she hears a knock on the door. The woman asks about the vacancy sign. When Bonnie is asked about the details of the apartment, she doesn’t provide much — to the disappointment of the woman at the door. After Bonnie suggests that the woman bribe her for more info, the woman introduces herself as the new building owner, Rita. They’re off to a very poor start.
New apartment building owner Rita is portrayed by Broadway legend Patti LuPone. The two-time Grammy Award winner and two-time Tony Award winner is best known for her stage roles including Eva Peron in the 1979 original production of Evita. LuPone is also recognized for her TV roles on Penny Dreadful (Dr. Seward), American Horror Story (Joan Ramsey), 30 Rock (Sylvia Rossitano), Oz (Stella Coffa), and Life Goes On (Libby Thatcher), among others. Mom airs Thursdays at 9pm on CBS, right after Young Sheldon and right before Life in Pieces.
