In the Scandal episode “Standing in the Sun,” President Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) is being prepped by her lawyer Helen. President Grant will be questioned by special prosecutor Lonnie Mencken (Michael O’Neill) who is looking to impeach Mellie. With her laywer is Liv (Kerry Washington), who’s been called to testify against Mellie. Helen advises Mellie to assert her Fifth Amendment privileges at the hearing. “It’s not that simple,” Mellie snaps. “I haven’t done anything wrong.” Liv agrees with Mellie, “Invoking her Fifth Amendment will make it look like she has something to hide.” Liv tells Mellie, “Answer the questions you’re asked.” Liv adds her signature dramatic touch, “The truth is your armor.”

Panthaky is known for her roles on Modern Family (Josie), The Fosters (Dr. Reena Kapur), Teen Wolf (Ms. Fleming), Degrassi: The Next Generation (Dr. Weston), Syfy’s Being Human (Rena Malik), and The State Within (Nasreen Qureshi), among others. Scandal airs Thursdays on ABC at 10pm, right after Station 19.
