On My 600-lb Life, the TLC cameras follow Jennifer and her daughter Marissa. Together they weigh more than 900 pounds. At first glance, it’s difficult to tell which woman is the mother. Jennifer got pregnant when she was 16. Marissa encourages her mother to go to the gym with her, but Jennifer isn’t ready. “It’s too big of a step for me right now,” she says. But Jennifer does agree to walk outside of the parking lot. Although Jennifer tells Marissa, “I hate life,” Marissa keeps the conversation cheerful. “Do you like the outside?” she asks her daughter. “I’ve never been out here before,” says Jennifer.
The two women keep walking. When Jennifer stops to take a breath, she realizes she hasn’t walked since 2008 – nine years ago. When they return to the staircase, Jennifer says with determination, “I will make it to the gym soon.” It’s a sweet moment between mother and daughter. “For the first time, I believe I can lose weight. I think it’s possible.” When Jennifer raises her hand to give her daughter a high-five, she reveals a tattoo on the inside of her arm — an awareness tattoo. It’s two ribbons (one is purple/black, the other green) intertwined — just like the one behind Marissa’s ear. Photos belows. My 600-lb Life airs Wednesdays at 8pm on TLC.
