In the Young Sheldon episode “Killer Asteroids, Oklahoma, and a Frizzy Hair Machine,” Sheldon (Iain Armitage) is disappointed when he loses at the science fair. But the experience points him in another direction – towards a stage. There he meets drama teacher Mr. Lundy, who’s also the coach of the girls volleyball team. (And he occasionally appears in local TV commercials.)
Drama teacher Mr. Lundy is portrayed by Jason Alexander. The actor from Newark, New Jersey puts on a Texan accent for Young Sheldon but he’s best know for his role as New Yorker George Costanza on Seinfeld. Alexander is also recognized as a prolific voice actor (Hugo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and for his roles in movies including Pretty Woman (Richard Gere’s friend Philip) and Shallow Hal (Jack Black’s friend). Alexander is also a well regarded stage actor. He won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Jerome Robbin’s Broadway in 1989. Young Sheldon airs Thursdays at 8:30pm on CBS, right after The Big Bang Theory.
