In the Utah desert south of Moab is a community called Rockland Ranch. It’s home to 14 families who are fundamentalist Mormons. Half of the men have more than one wife. According to TLC, “up until now, they haven’t wanted to draw attention to their polygamist lifestyle.” But now “they’re tired of living in the shadows.” The families have allowed cameras to follow their lives (including births and deaths) for a year for the new TV show Three Wives, One Husband. (Note: The families did allow a reporter and photographer from The Atlantic to document their lifestyle in 2012. There are monogamous couples at the Ranch, too.)
One of the husbands featured is Enoch Foster. He is expecting his 17th child with his second wife, Lillian, and has begun wooing a third wife, 25-year old Lydia. Three Wives, One Husband airs Sundays at 10pm on TLC.
