In the Superior Donuts episode “Always Bet on Black,” while Tush (David Koechner) meets a mysterious woman he connected with online at the coffee shop, Franco (Jermaine Fowler) invites former Negro League baseball player Luther “Wheels” Langdon to the shop for Black History Month. Franco is tired of businesses (like Fawz’s) trying to exploit the celebration in order to make a buck. He hopes that bringing in an unsung hero like Wheels will inspire kids and remind everyone there are more people to honor during Black History than Martin Luther King Jr. and Rose Parks.

Wheels is portrayed by the legendary Bill Cobbs. Cobbs is recognized for his roles in the films The Hudsucker Proxy (Moses), The Bodyguard (Devaney), Bird (Dr. Caulfield), Dominick and Eugene (Jesse Johnson), and The Color of Money (Orvis), among others. Fun fact: Cobbs made his acting debut in the 1974 Walter Matthau film The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Superior Donuts airs Mondays at 9pm on CBS, right after Man with a Plan, and right before 9JKL.
