In The Goldbergs episode “The Goldberg Girls,” Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) is afraid of growing old alone. But she finds inspiration in the popular TV show The Golden Girls. She tries to bond with three other moms — Geoff’s mother Linda, Essie (Stephanie Courtney) and Virginia — to form their own group like Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClellan, and Estelle Getty.

Virginia is portrayed by Jennifer Irwin. The Canadian-born actress is known for her roles on HBO’s Eastbound & Down (Cassie Powers), Crash Canyon (Sheila Wendell), Breaking In (Creepy Carol), Still Standing (Jami Gertz’s single sister Linda), and Inside Schwartz (Emily), among others. Irwin is also recognized for her roles in the films Bad Teacher with Cameron Diaz (Chase’s mom), Exit Wounds with Steven Seagal (Linda, the anger management therapist), Superstar with Molly Shannon (Maria) and No Strings Attached with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman (Megan). The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8pm on ABC.
