The new series The Resident is set at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. The Resident refers to third-year resident Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry). He’s calm and cocky and takes one of the interns, Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal), under his wing. Conrad’s #1 nemesis is Chief of Surgery Dr. Randolph Bell, whom Conrad believes should stop practicing medicine. Conrad suggests that Randolph retire and become a TV doctor. “You have the looks for it,” Conrad jabs. But Conrad doesn’t always have the last word. Randolph holds a lot of power in the hospital, and he isn’t afraid to use it, especially against Conrad.

Dr. Randolph Bell is portrayed by Bruce Greenwood. The Canadian-born actor is known for his roles on American Crime Story (Gil Garcetti), Mad Men (Richard Burghoff), Knots Landing (Pierce Lawton), and St. Elsewhere (Dr. Seth Griffin), among others. Greenwood is also well recognized for his roles in the Star Trek films (Pike), Capote (Jack Dunphy, see link above), Double Jeopardy (Nick), Thirteen Days with Kevin Costner (John F. Kennedy), and I, Robot (Lawrence Robertson). You can see Greenwood on the big screen right now in The Post (he plays controversial US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara! — photo below). The Resident airs Sundays at 10pm on FOX.
Highlight for me was Bruce Greenwood getting to share a powerful 2-person scene with Meryl Streep.
Greenwood is one of my all-time favorite actors, great to see him get such a key supporting role pic.twitter.com/5OlNz2vD3V— Keith Callbeck (@KeithCallbeck) January 14, 2018
