In the Bull episode “Grey Areas,” Bull (Michael Weatherly) takes on a friend as a client. His friend is psychologist Dr. Donovan Benanti. The doctor is sued for malpractice after his patient went on a deadly rampage. During the trial, Bull worries that a loss could set new precedent regarding doctor-patient confidentiality. Bull does everything he can to convince the jury that psychologists like Benanti aren’t directly responsible for their patients’ actions.
Dr. Benanti is portrayed by C.J. Wilson. Wilson is known for his roles on USA’s The Sinner with Jessica Biel (William), Homeland (Porteous Belli), House of Cards (Agent Laker), and The Americans (Agent Samuels). He’s also recognized for his roles in the films Manchester by the Sea (George, see link above), The Intern (Mike), Demolition (Carl), and The Magic of Belle Isle (Fire Captain), among others. Bull airs Tuesdays at 9pm on CBS.
