Retired late night talk show host David Letterman was awarded the 20th Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on October 22. The televised event will air on Monday, November 20 at 8pm on PBS. Several comedians took stage to honor and rib the 70-year-old bearded Letterman including Jimmy Kimmel, Bill Murray, Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Amy Schumer, among others. (President Donald Trump was not in attendance.)
By Letterman’s side is his wife Regina Lasko, 57, and their 13-year-old son Harry (who is named after Letterman’s late father). Letterman and Lasko started dating in 1986. In 2003, Lasko gave birth to Harry. After dating for more than two decades, Letterman and Lasko got married in 2009. In a Rolling Stone interview in 2015, Letterman said of Lasko, “She’s very smart. She worked in broadcasting, so she knows everything I do here. And in addition to being a practical combination, we just have a lot of fun.” On his last Late Show broadcast, Letterman thanked Regina and Harry, saying, “Thank you. Seriously just thank you for being my family. I love you both and really nothing else matters does it.”
