Brooke Simpson is the 26-year-old powerhouse on Team Miley on The Voice, Season 13. She’s made it to the Top 12 and for her Live Show performance she’s singing Kesha‘s latest hit “Praying” on her album Rainbow. (Her first album since her 2002 Warrior.) The song is about forgiveness, and hoping that people who have hurt you are able to heal. It’s a powerful piano ballad that showcases Kesha’s vocal range especially the part where she screams at the top of her register. Macklemore’s old buddy Ryan Lewis co-wrote the song and said that in the studio Kesha’s super-high whistle note “came out of nowhere.” He said, “I don’t think Kesha even knew her voice had such a range.”

William Ferrer of The Seattle Times wrote that Kesha’s “Praying” is “a bone-chilling must-listen.” And if anyone can pull off “bone-chilling” song on The Voice it’s Brooke Simpson. Did you see her sing James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s World” on The Voice? Plus, Brooke knows a thing or two about praying. Her parents Jimille and Mike Mills are the pastors of Mills Family Ministries. And they can sing too! The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
