On the Modern Family episode “Catch of the Day,” while Jay (Ed O’Neill) suspects that his wife Gloria (Sophia Vergara) is keeping a car accident a secret, Phil (Ty Burrell) is spooked after he fails to successfully complete his daily superstition. The appearance of his real estate rival, Gil Thorpe, doesn’t help.
Gil is portrayed by Rob Riggle. Riggle, a former Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, is known for his comedic roles on Angie Tribeca, New Girl (Big Schmidt), The Daily Show (2006-2015), Saturday Night Live (2004-2005), among others. He’s currently providing commentary on Fox NFL Sunday. Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC.
