In the fifth episode of Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, before the murder trial of Lyle (Miles Gaston Villanueva) and Erik (Gus Halper) Menendez begins, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stan Weisberg allows cameras in the courtroom. Both sides of the case face new challenges in front of the judge and the media. When the prosecution’s star witness, Dr. Oziel (Josh Charles) takes the stand, his questionable ethics destroy his credibility. Meanwhile the defense has difficulty getting Judge Weisberg to understand the relevance of the brothers’ “complicated upbringing.” Note: The real Judge Weisberg retired from the bench in 2008, 12 years after sentencing both Menendez Brothers to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
[Edwards played Tom Cruise’s wingman in Top Gun]
Judge Weisberg is portrayed by Anthony Edwards. He’s known for his roles on ER (Dr. Mark Greene), Northern Exposure (Mike Monroe), and in the films Top Gun (Goose), Gotcha! (Jonathan), and the Revenge of the Nerd movies (Gilbert), among many others. Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders airs Tuesdays at 10pm on NBC, right after This Is Us.
