The original musical act The Blues Brothers originated in 1978 on Saturday Night Live with comedians John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. Decades after John Belushi’s death in 1982, his younger brother, actor Jim Belushi (According to Jim) joined the band. The Blues Brothers are performing at the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on the Fourth of July to celebrate America’s 241st birthday.

Prior to their live performance, Aykroyd and Belushi spoke with PBS correspondent Elizabeth Floyd in their Blues Brothers characters, Brothers Elwood and Zee. Elwood (Aykroyd) introduces Zee (Belushi) as “a true descendant of the Illinois Alpha Males,” and explains “of course, I used to perform with his brother (Brother Jake) and now we do the act. It’s kind of like a law firm with a deceased partner.” A Capitol Fourth will air on July 4 at 8pm on PBS.
