Gabriel Sherman is the 37-year-old national affairs editor at New York Magazine who will be the mid-show interview guest on Real Time with Bill Maher on May 5. He’s 2014 book “The Loudest Voice in the Room” about FOX News and then CEO Roger Ailes became a New York Times best seller and is now getting TV treatment at Showtime. The forthcoming mini-series The Purge will be based on Sherman’s New York magazine coverage of FOX and his book.

Sherman and his wife Jennifer Stahl (an editor at ProPublica) will write and co-executive produce. The Purge will be directed by Tom McCarthy who knows how to turn journalism into drama. He won an Oscar for the film Spotlight about The Boston Globe’s 2001 coverage of the Roman Catholic sex abuse scandal. Real Time with Bill Maher at 10pm on HBO.
